Underworlds: Rippa Snarlfangs Wolf Riders

A blast from the past! It's some wolfriders! I have some of the old ones someplace, but these are much nicer. Good miniatures that were fun to paint! I particularly like the wolves!

Given the background of Beastgrave (namely, no-one can really die and sometimes creatures get trapped in amber for awhile iirc), I wonder if the wolf riders all died off 1,000's of years ago and nobody bothered to tell Rippa and his Boyz. They could be the last wolfriders in existence!

Noteworthy bits from painting: The white part of the white wolves is contrast white with Pallid Wychflesh highlights. The grey part is contrast grey straight (no highlights or anything). The goblin flesh is contrast orc flesh with Skarsnik and Nurgling highlights. It's a bit on the pallid side (I used something similar for Gloomspite where that look is more appropriate ... I think I'd experiment more if I painted more of surface orc/goblins). Everything else is pretty standard. I'm still struggling with eyes, ironically, in part due to my eyes...

The Bad Moon Loonshrine

I thought this would be quick to paint. Just a bunch of washes and drybrushes ... right?!?!? Every-so-often I'm wrong like that. It took longer than I expected (about a week+ of my painting time). Vertically, it's probably my largest piece of terrain, it's really quite big. I guess the Night Goblins are compensating for their small size or something.

BTW, I do like it, it's a good "miniature" and fits right in with my various Night Goblin/Moonclan/Gloomspite Grots.

Awakened Sylvaneth Wyldwoods

They're awake!

These are the Awakened Sylvaneth Wyldwoods. Okay, at first I didn't like them. I thought they looked "off" for trees. Then I assembled some, and took a look from 3+ feet. It turns out GW's official pictures really don't do them justice. The angle makes them seem "top" heavy with all the foliage at the top. From a normal viewing angle, they look really nice. In addition, they are 1000% stronger and easier to use than their previous iteration. These things have really "grown" on me, my opinion has flipped 180 degrees.

Sigmarite Mausoleum

A Sigmarite Mausoleum. I completed it last month. I finally got a few pictures taken of the pieces. This isn't everything, just about 1/2 of the set. The whole set is actually 2 of the old Gardens of Morr, it should be enough terrain to cover about 2x3 feet of board.
I must admit to being a bit tired of painting white roses and skulls by the end of it all.
Mostly it was done using drybrushes, washes, followed by more drybrushing.
I think it came out pretty good. There are 30 pieces in totally. I kept the houses separate from the bases so I can lay them out separately to cover more area if I want.

WHFB: Night Goblin Bowgobbo Champions

Two of the champions in the bow goblins posted a month ago always left me unsatisfied. They don't have bows. So these two replace the offending goblins, freeing them up for better things. One will become a Squig Herder, the other a Boss Goblin.

WHFB: Night Goblin Squig Hoppers

Cause the only thing better than herding a bunch of psychotic pit bull-like creatures into battle ... is riding one into battle.

WHFB: Night Goblin Squig Herd #2

Even more Squigs! How can you go wrong with 2 legs and a mouth full of teeth!

WHFB: Night Goblin Swordgobbos

Happy Halloween!

The last of the core gobbos. A unit of 20 gobbos with hand weapons, shields & nets. In addition, pictured is 7 more fanatics, 1 night goblin warboss, 1 night goblin shaman,  and 12 "half" base unit fillers. I made the unit fillers to allow myself to offset the archer goblins since then they would rank up better. Although they look good in the other units as well. They make the units look less uniform, which is good for undisciplined Gobbos. Although they are a smidge wider than 1/2 a base width and I should have trimmed them a bit more (something to keep in mind if I ever make more).

Sorry about the background for the picture, not sure what I was thinking...

WHFB: Night Goblin Bowgobbos

Another 3 units of bow armed goblins. Each has a full command and a complete unwillingness to get too close to the enemy.

WHFB: Night Goblin Speargobbos

The first unit. The command group from the previous post goes in this unit. 50 gobbos armed with shields, spears and nets along with 2 fanatics. Most of these are from Battle for Skull Pass, although a few are from the Night Goblin Regiment box set. The fanatics are old Kev Adam sculpts.

WHFB: Night Goblin Command Models

The first three Night Goblins I painted. A command group. This was a test of my formula and color schemes.

WHFB: Gors

The workhorse of the army. The simple Gor. In the back there are a couple of Mordhiem Gors hanging about.

WHFB: Minotaurs

Some more old-style minotaurs.

Added the horn from the Gor kit to make a musician. Added a large standard from <no idea where> to make a standard bearer. The rams skull is freehand. And the other old-style champion.

I tried picturing them individually, which I think works a bit better.

WHFB: Beastman Shaman & Nurgle Wargor

A Beastman Shaman, one of many who dance about the herdstone, along with his friend a Nurgle themed Wargor (this is the champion from the old Plague Bestigors).

WHFB: Old Style Minotaurs

A unit of 3 minotaurs. These are the old style ones from GW. I found a bunch of Minotaur Standard Bearers in a bargain bin, and converted them into several different poses. The one in the middle is carrying a gong. He can be used as either a musician or a standard bearer (or both!). The one on the right I added a horn from the Gor kit. Left is the unit champion.

WHFB: Tomb Kings

Parts of the Tomb King (at the time they were just Undead) army I painted. The bottom photo I painted in high school, the top I painted in college. The only miniatures I painted in college (this and 8 other skeletons).
