The Bad Moon Loonshrine

I thought this would be quick to paint. Just a bunch of washes and drybrushes ... right?!?!? Every-so-often I'm wrong like that. It took longer than I expected (about a week+ of my painting time). Vertically, it's probably my largest piece of terrain, it's really quite big. I guess the Night Goblins are compensating for their small size or something.

BTW, I do like it, it's a good "miniature" and fits right in with my various Night Goblin/Moonclan/Gloomspite Grots.

Everchosen Display Board: "To the Victor..."

July hasn't been a great month for getting miniatures painted. So I'm going to count the display board I made for the Everchosen Open Event as single miniature! Woot!
I took the picture as I was dropping it off, so it's not against the usually white backdrop. All of the miniatures on it have already been seen on this blog, but not in this format.
The original plan was to pit all the Underworld's Stormcasts (Farstriders, Steelharts, & Cursebreakers) against all of the Greenskins (Zarbags, Ironskulls, & Mollogs), but I couldn't fit them all on the board I made. So I jettisoned the Trolls and the Varanguard.

Warhammer Underworlds: Mollogs Mob

The pictures came out a bit dark, they are a bit more vibrant in reality. I got a little weary painting this Underworlds band. I kept getting distracted by real life, and if a project takes too long my interest will often waver. I usually like painting Trolls. I used some of the new Contrast paints on these (the blue is Ultramarines Blue, the stalactites and the belly was the Grey Contrast Paint ... although I still highlighted and both of them with lighter colors). Still not sure about them (although I bought a few more recently).

Warhammer Underworlds: Zarbag's Gits

Goblins!
It's Zarbag's Gits for Warhammer Underworlds. These are a fun set of miniatures to paint, I followed my standard Night Goblin formula for how I painted them (see the Night Goblin article on the right). The only model I don't really like is the fanatic. I get that he's quaffing the moon brew that will turn him super strong (and cause him to want to spin spin spin), but a fanatic doesn't seem like a fanatic unless he's in a twirling pose. As usual, I painted the squigs blue (cause blue squigs are cool!)
There's always a moment when I paint the cowls with either checkers or dags where I question myself as to whether it's a good idea or not. Hopefully I did a good job this time.

Malign Sorcery: Mork’s Mighty Mushroom

Mork's Mighty Mushroom! Not Gorkamorka's Mighty Mushroom, this one is all Mork all the time. I like the miniature (if you can call it that ... it's pretty tall), although I think I'd have preferred it not having the little moons in the mist/spores coming out the top. This is also the last of the Gloomspite Endless Spells.

Malign Sorcery: The Scuttletide

If you have arachnopobia, this is NOT the miniature for you. It's a whole lot of spiders. Big spiders, little spiders, and all sizes of spiders in between.
Looking at the GW's paint job, I see they didn't come up with a scheme that's better than mine. It's an interesting conundrum, the big spiders are big enough that you could do some cool markings (like a tarantula or something), but there are so many smaller spiders that it'd be extremely tedious to do it across the entire swarm. So I kept an easier scheme across the board (mostly browns, but with a light yellow drybrush across the legs). Speaking of the legs, they don't have any undercuts, so I made sure the tops were lighter than the place the undercuts should be (so it looks like there might be "space" under the legs).

Malign Sorcery: The Malevolent Moon

Don't come around tonight,
There's bound to be a fight,
There's a Bad Moon on the Rise!

It's the big guy himself, the Bad Moon! Of the endless spells, he was probably the most difficult/time-consuming to paint. Largely because I added edge highlights and highlighted all his pimples/craters. I figure he's the personification of the entity (god?) that my night goblins worship, I should make him look a little "nice". Like many of the endless spells, I like him more than I expected too.

AoS: Moonclan Fungoid Cave-Shaman

Finished the Moonclan Fungoid Cave-Shaman. I like the mushroom "hat", but it does tend to dominate the other features on the miniature.

WHFB: Night Goblin Bowgobbo Champions

Two of the champions in the bow goblins posted a month ago always left me unsatisfied. They don't have bows. So these two replace the offending goblins, freeing them up for better things. One will become a Squig Herder, the other a Boss Goblin.

WHFB: Night Goblin Squig Hoppers

Cause the only thing better than herding a bunch of psychotic pit bull-like creatures into battle ... is riding one into battle.

WHFB: Night Goblin Squig Herd #2

Even more Squigs! How can you go wrong with 2 legs and a mouth full of teeth!

WHFB: Night Goblin Swordgobbos

Happy Halloween!

The last of the core gobbos. A unit of 20 gobbos with hand weapons, shields & nets. In addition, pictured is 7 more fanatics, 1 night goblin warboss, 1 night goblin shaman,  and 12 "half" base unit fillers. I made the unit fillers to allow myself to offset the archer goblins since then they would rank up better. Although they look good in the other units as well. They make the units look less uniform, which is good for undisciplined Gobbos. Although they are a smidge wider than 1/2 a base width and I should have trimmed them a bit more (something to keep in mind if I ever make more).

Sorry about the background for the picture, not sure what I was thinking...

WHFB: Night Goblin Bowgobbos

Another 3 units of bow armed goblins. Each has a full command and a complete unwillingness to get too close to the enemy.

WHFB: Night Goblin Speargobbos

The first unit. The command group from the previous post goes in this unit. 50 gobbos armed with shields, spears and nets along with 2 fanatics. Most of these are from Battle for Skull Pass, although a few are from the Night Goblin Regiment box set. The fanatics are old Kev Adam sculpts.

WHFB: Night Goblin Command Models

The first three Night Goblins I painted. A command group. This was a test of my formula and color schemes.
