Malign Sorcery: Lauchon the Soul Seeker

Another Malign Sorcery spell. This one actually is somewhat more "miniaturey" than the others. It has a dude on it! He (She?) is a shard of the god Lauchon the Soul Seeker. For the discount price of one soul, he will carry you across the battlefield in his stylish boat. I like how he came out, but I'm not loving some of the effects, namely the fire and the green mist didn't seem to come out quite like I wanted. Since he's getting entered into a painting event, I took the time to complete his base as well.

Malign Sorcery: Purple Sun of Shyish

The last malign sorcery piece! Yoohoo! It's the biggest of them all, the Purple Sun of Shyish. For it's size, this is surprising easy to paint (mostly drybrushing and washing). When I picture the color scheme I used (dark purple highlighted threw bone up to a touch of lamenters yellow on the tips of the "rays"), I think it's way to garish, but when I see it in person I like it a lot more. This thing is so big that it didn't quite fit in the shelf I usually keep these things in and so had to paint it separately (and store it separately) than the other malign sorcery stuff (hence why it was the last to be painted).
Oddly enough, GW dropped the next set of endless spells on the same day I finished this thing.

Malign Sorcery: Ravenak’s Gnashing Jaws

Pac man!
This is one of my favorite Malign Sorcery bits. It's a huge (and I mean huge) pair of disembodied jaws that float across the battlefield eating whatever is in their way. I painted it with the same effects I used on all the other malign sorceries, except I added thinned down (using lahmia medium) lamenter yellow to the end of the magic energy effects. Not a lot else to say except ... chomp chomp chomp!

Malign Sorcery: Malevolent Maelstrom

It's a ball of ... no idea. It's got skulls in it and some sort of creepy mist/energy effect around it. I think it's supposed to be a bunch of soul-stuff you toss at your enemies ... maybe??? I painted it orange working up to yellow highlights with green mist. I was shooting for a skully fire ball effect. Whatever it is, it's malevolent ... that's for sure.

Malign Sorcery: Prismatic Palisade

It's a wall of scintillating colors, the Prismatic Palisade. I had originally planned on painting the colors horizontally instead of vertically, but a quick image search showed that it looked better with vertical bands. It's mostly a white base coat followed with various color washes to create the bands. A last drybrush of dead white to try to tie it all back together.
It's not a bad miniature, but I think it could be a bit taller, since it's supposed to be an impassable wall.

Malign Sorcery: Wildfire Taurus

It's a big flaming bull. Well ... 1/2 of a big flaming bull ... there are no back legs. This thing is huge! I could have painted it blue and it'd be Babe the Blue Ox. Painting-wise it uses the same pallet I used on all my Beastmen. I like the concept a lot, but it'd be a better miniature (and more usable in other situations) if it was 1/2 the size.

Malign Sorcery: Suffocating Gravetide

It's the Gravetide, churning across the battlefield and pulling the unwary into an early grave! This miniature is a bit plain, (it's mostly dirt and rocks ... a few skulls and a few sarcophagi lids), but I like how it came out.

Malign Sorcery: Mork’s Mighty Mushroom

Mork's Mighty Mushroom! Not Gorkamorka's Mighty Mushroom, this one is all Mork all the time. I like the miniature (if you can call it that ... it's pretty tall), although I think I'd have preferred it not having the little moons in the mist/spores coming out the top. This is also the last of the Gloomspite Endless Spells.

Malign Sorcery: Doomblast Dirgehorn

Tooodoooo! It's a big horn (both types!). I like this miniature, not sure about the paint job I gave it. Being colorblind, the light green mist kinda blends into the light brown horn. If I did it again, I'd probably make the mist either blue or red.

Malign Sorcery: The Scuttletide

If you have arachnopobia, this is NOT the miniature for you. It's a whole lot of spiders. Big spiders, little spiders, and all sizes of spiders in between.
Looking at the GW's paint job, I see they didn't come up with a scheme that's better than mine. It's an interesting conundrum, the big spiders are big enough that you could do some cool markings (like a tarantula or something), but there are so many smaller spiders that it'd be extremely tedious to do it across the entire swarm. So I kept an easier scheme across the board (mostly browns, but with a light yellow drybrush across the legs). Speaking of the legs, they don't have any undercuts, so I made sure the tops were lighter than the place the undercuts should be (so it looks like there might be "space" under the legs).

Malign Sorcery: Emerald Lifeswarm

A swarm of dragonflies. This is kinda a cool miniature. In the game, the dragonflies land on wounds and heal them. The dragonflies are a bit simple and the wings, oddly enough, have more detail on the underside. I like the way they came out, but it was touch and go there for awhile.

Malign Sorcery: Geminids of Uhl-Ghysh

The Geminids of Ulh-Ghysh. I have to admit, I wasn't too sure how to paint these. One is supposed to represent "light" while the other represents "shadow". It's a cool concept, and I have no issues with the miniatures, but there isn't anything particularly noteworthy about these two identical miniatures. They are balls with lightning coming off them.

Malign Sorcery: Burning Head

The burning head. Nothing particularly fancy with the paint job, but it's a cool miniature. My only complaint (which is a complaint I have for all of the Endless Spells) is that it's just too big. It could be 1/2 the size and it'd be a much better miniature.

Malign Sorcery: The Malevolent Moon

Don't come around tonight,
There's bound to be a fight,
There's a Bad Moon on the Rise!

It's the big guy himself, the Bad Moon! Of the endless spells, he was probably the most difficult/time-consuming to paint. Largely because I added edge highlights and highlighted all his pimples/craters. I figure he's the personification of the entity (god?) that my night goblins worship, I should make him look a little "nice". Like many of the endless spells, I like him more than I expected too.

Malign Sorcer: Ravening Direflock

The name makes it sound like a primal flying piranha thingy, but these are really just 3 flocks of crows. I like them more than I expected. Easy to paint and they look pretty good once painted. I do think I chose the wrong base color, I should have started from straight black instead of dark grey. Basically a bunch of dry brushing with Eshin Grey followed by Dawnstone. They should work well for other games too!

Malign Sorcery: Soulsnare Shackles

Here are some magical shackles that erupt from the earth to ensnare your soul. Presumably, a giant monster is approaching to finish you off, as you pull and pry in an attempt to escape!
So far, these were easy to spell effects to paint.

Malign Sorcery: Aethervoid Pendulum

I thought this thing was called the Penulitmate Pendulum, but I think I'm confusing it with a spell from the previous edition. It's a giant pendulum that cuts a straight line across the table.

The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced what I thought were mists coming off it, are actually either lightning or fire. I'm tempted to give it a quick glaze of Lamentors Yellow on the ends.

Malign Sorcery: Quicksilver Swords

More Malign Sorcery miniatures. This time it's the Quicksilver Swords. I think what these do is pretty self explanatory.
Once again, they are oddly "large", this won't stop me from using them in D&D (in particular, they should make a good Wall of Blades).

Malign Sorcery: Umbral Spell Portal

The Umbral Spell Portals from Gamesworkshop's Malign Sorcery. The mirror effect was done with Stormcast Silver base, with either Waywatcher Green glaze or Guilleman Blue glaze on top. The mists where done similar to the Cogs (but with Guilleman Blue instead of Waywatcher green for one of them).
You summon these in pairs, and it allows you to cast spells from one to the other, increasing the range of your eldritch powers.

Malign Sorcery: Chronomatic Cogs

Age of Sigmar dropped a bunch of spell effects not too long ago. I've started working through them.

Here's the Chronomatic Cogs. They are summoned onto the battlefield and allow any wizards (friend or foe) who are in base contact to manipulate time.

They are a bit on the "large" side, but that just makes them easier to paint. I'm trying something new with the mists and fumes on these. Basically an admin grey basecoat, a dry brush of Pallid Wych flesh, followed by a glaze of Waywather Green, followed by a second dry brush of Pallid Wych flesh.
