Various Stormcast Eternals

More Stormcast Eternals. Some of these were painted for a game called Crypthunters and the others were painted for Lost Relics. Both are games you can get from Barnes and Noble. I have another set of all of these (except the guy with the staff) from Underworlds warbands. I probably won't paint those. The guys with crossbows were fun to paint, but the others were less so. I now have a small box that's just filled with various Stormcast Eternals.

Underworlds: Rippa Snarlfangs Wolf Riders

A blast from the past! It's some wolfriders! I have some of the old ones someplace, but these are much nicer. Good miniatures that were fun to paint! I particularly like the wolves!

Given the background of Beastgrave (namely, no-one can really die and sometimes creatures get trapped in amber for awhile iirc), I wonder if the wolf riders all died off 1,000's of years ago and nobody bothered to tell Rippa and his Boyz. They could be the last wolfriders in existence!

Noteworthy bits from painting: The white part of the white wolves is contrast white with Pallid Wychflesh highlights. The grey part is contrast grey straight (no highlights or anything). The goblin flesh is contrast orc flesh with Skarsnik and Nurgling highlights. It's a bit on the pallid side (I used something similar for Gloomspite where that look is more appropriate ... I think I'd experiment more if I painted more of surface orc/goblins). Everything else is pretty standard. I'm still struggling with eyes, ironically, in part due to my eyes...

Warhammer Underworlds: Lady Harrow's Mournflight

Lady Harrow's Mournflight from Warhammer Underworlds: Dreadfane. If I had finished these 3 days earlier, I would have been able to say I'd completed all of the Underworld's warbands that had been released. Then Beastgrave came out ... and now I've got another 2 warbands to finish (3 as of next week).

I mostly followed GW's Battle Ready youtube video for Lady Harrow's Mournflight, but with additional highlights.

A brief painting guide: Robes/Cloaks were Ionrach Skin, washed with Thinned Nihilakh, highlighted with Ionrach Skin and White (edge). Dress was Ionrach, washed with Thinned Nihilakh, Thinned Nighhaunt Gloom, highlighted with Ionrach & White (edge). Flesh was Greyseer with White Highlight. Bodice was Snakebite Leather (Contrast). Weapons were Ironbreaker, washed with Agrellan and highlighted with Ironbreaker and Stormhost Silver. Stonework was Basiculm Grey (Contrast) with Agrax wash. Ground was Mournfang Brown with Agrax wash. Stumps & vines: mournfang, agrax wash, deathclaw, bieltan green wash. Roses: White with Druchi Violet wash.

Warhammer Underworlds: Ironsoul's Condemners

More Stormcast Eternal. This time it's the Sequitors from Warhammer Underworlds Dreadfane.

These are the 20th, 21st & 22nd Stormcast Eternals I've painted. When do you admit you've got an Army?

I used Contrast paint with these. As with previous attempts with Contrast, I'm really struggling with faces when using it (although Gwynne Ironsoul's face is odd in that she's got her chin tucked down under her armor). Still doesn't look right though.

The rest had a Wraithbone undercoat, Blood Angels Contrast on the red, Apothecary White on the white bits, and Basilicanum Grey stones. Then I mostly treated it the same as the previous Stormcast. Red bits have washes with Agrax Earthshade and highlights with Scarlet and Fire Dragon Red. White bits have  highlights with Pallid Wych Flesh. Grey bits have highlights with Adminstratum Grey.

Warhammer Underworlds: Godsworn Hunt

Another Warhammer Underworlds warband. This time it's the darkoath barbarian's of the Godsworn hunt. I like this band! I've always enjoyed painting barbarians.

This was the first time I used a significant amount of Contrast Paint. I doesn't have quite the same control as I'm used to, and it came out a bit patchy in places (need to be more careful I guess). I still like the effect and it did go fast. Started with Wraithbone basecoat, used Dark Oath Flesh on the flesh, Basicum Grey on the grey bits (mostly some of the hair, rocks, and tree trunks), Snake Bite leather on the leather bits, and the White Contrast Paint on the white bits. The metal and bone was painted using my standard techniques. I highlighted with slightly lighter versions of the colors (and that helped with the "patchiness" a bit).

I also noticed that it seemed really hard to paint the eyes after the contrast paint was applied. That might be my eyesight catching up to me though...

The dog is a bit weird, I don't think he has eyes...
I also am not happy with some of the highlights on the shamaness, I applied an extra coat of Dark Oath flesh and that really darkened her face, I then added extra highlights and it really didn't work the way I had hoped it would.

Warhammer Underworlds: Thundrik's Profiteers

I had more fun than I expected painting these. Kharadon Overlords (i.e. Sky-Dwarf-Pirates) for Underworlds.

Started with a Leadbelcher undercoat, washed the entire mini with Nuln Oil, then drybrushed everything with Ironbreaker. Painted the bases Mournfang Brown (with Admin Grey rocks). Next I picked out brown bits with Deathclaw brown, gold bits with Retributor Gold and painted their jumpsuits Caledor Sky blue. Washed the appropriate colors for each of those three parts (Agrax Earthshade, Reikland Fleshwash & Naggaroth Night). Then highlighted back up to the base color, taking the iron bits up to a Silver in a few places. Then I painted their eye lenses Kantor blue with a dot of Lothern Blue in the middle.

It was fast and I think they came out pretty well.

Warhammer Underworlds: Eye's of the Nine

Another Underworlds warband, this time it's the Eye's of the Nine. Painted using the same system I used on my other Tzeentch Karic Acolyte stuff. I like the 2 Acolytes and the Beastman, the other miniatures are okay.

Everchosen Display Board: "To the Victor..."

July hasn't been a great month for getting miniatures painted. So I'm going to count the display board I made for the Everchosen Open Event as single miniature! Woot!
I took the picture as I was dropping it off, so it's not against the usually white backdrop. All of the miniatures on it have already been seen on this blog, but not in this format.
The original plan was to pit all the Underworld's Stormcasts (Farstriders, Steelharts, & Cursebreakers) against all of the Greenskins (Zarbags, Ironskulls, & Mollogs), but I couldn't fit them all on the board I made. So I jettisoned the Trolls and the Varanguard.

Warhammer Underworlds: Mollogs Mob

The pictures came out a bit dark, they are a bit more vibrant in reality. I got a little weary painting this Underworlds band. I kept getting distracted by real life, and if a project takes too long my interest will often waver. I usually like painting Trolls. I used some of the new Contrast paints on these (the blue is Ultramarines Blue, the stalactites and the belly was the Grey Contrast Paint ... although I still highlighted and both of them with lighter colors). Still not sure about them (although I bought a few more recently).

Warhammer Underworlds: Zarbag's Gits

Goblins!
It's Zarbag's Gits for Warhammer Underworlds. These are a fun set of miniatures to paint, I followed my standard Night Goblin formula for how I painted them (see the Night Goblin article on the right). The only model I don't really like is the fanatic. I get that he's quaffing the moon brew that will turn him super strong (and cause him to want to spin spin spin), but a fanatic doesn't seem like a fanatic unless he's in a twirling pose. As usual, I painted the squigs blue (cause blue squigs are cool!)
There's always a moment when I paint the cowls with either checkers or dags where I question myself as to whether it's a good idea or not. Hopefully I did a good job this time.

Warhammer Underworlds: Stormsire's Cursebreakers

I'm stumbling my way to a full Stormcast army. It's the spellcasting Stormcast of Underworlds. I'm continuing with my paint scheme of red and white (with gold accents). I'm not sure I have a lot more to say about these guys...

Warhammer Underworlds: Thorns of the Briar Queen

The first of the new Warhammer Underworlds war bands. It's the Thorns of the Briar Queen. I used Hexwraith Flames over Pallid Wych Flesh for the "white" parts and Eshin Grey, Nuln Oil and Dawnstone for the black robes. If I did these again, I'd do the skulls the same way I did the arms/lower robes.

Nightvault Arcane Hazard: Broken Statue featuring an Icon of Nagash

After finishing this piece, I like it more than when I started. It's nothing particularly fancy, but it should look pretty on the Shadespire game board.

Nightvault Arcane Hazard: Throne

This is probably one of my least favorite Arcane Hazards. The seat isn't deep enough, the back of the throne is just weird (it looks like it was never finished). I guess all of the skulls embedded in the seat are kinda cool ... if you like sitting on that type of thing. It's a weird miniature.

Nightvault Arcane Hazard: Sinister Triangular Ruins

Not just pyramids ... sinister pyramids. I'm not sure why they are listed as Triangular Ruins. They aren't very ruined. In fact, they look very intact. I like these, but not sure what they are. Good window-dressing for a arcane dungeon.

Nightvault Arcane Hazard: A Pyre of Skulls

An Underworlds Arcane Hazards piece. It's call the Pyre of Skulls on GW's website. It's a cute little piece which will look good in any number of dungeons.

Nightvault Arcane Hazard: Triangular Ruins

Yep! That's the name GW gives these ... triangular ruins with smoke between. These are Arcane Hazards for Shadespire: Underworlds. Not sure why these triangles are leaking a green mist, but it can't be healthy.

Nightvault Arcane Hazard: Creepers

So this thing doesn't have a very evocative name. From GW's website, it just says it's a set of creepers emerging from the cracked ground below.

Shadespire: Magore's Fiends

Wow! Another Shadespire warband painted. That was fast! It's almost as if I painted them at the same time as The Farstriders!

The colors are almost the same as The Farstriders, the difference consist of the final highlight on the red being Trollslayer Orange, as opposed to Fire Dragon Bright Red, and the Gold was edge highlighted with Stormhost Silver. These also were a lot of fun to paint (although painting both warbands at the same time, made it feel like it took forever). It's the same color scheme I used on the Gorechosen I painted earlier.

This is the last Shadespire warband (until they release some for Version 2 of the game). I'm calling this project complete.

Shadespire: The Farstriders

Finished another Shadespire warband. This time it's The Farstriders. These were oddly fun to paint, and the edge highlighting makes them really pop. I basically follow the same painting guide I used for the Space Hulk Blood Angels I did earlier. Once more, they are members of the "Order of Sigmar's Temples", also known as the Templars.
