It's a big flaming bull. Well ... 1/2 of a big flaming bull ... there are no back legs. This thing is huge! I could have painted it blue and it'd be Babe the Blue Ox. Painting-wise it uses the same pallet I used on all my Beastmen. I like the concept a lot, but it'd be a better miniature (and more usable in other situations) if it was 1/2 the size.

Malign Sorcery: Suffocating Gravetide
It's the Gravetide, churning across the battlefield and pulling the unwary into an early grave! This miniature is a bit plain, (it's mostly dirt and rocks ... a few skulls and a few sarcophagi lids), but I like how it came out.
Malign Sorcery: Mork’s Mighty Mushroom
Mork's Mighty Mushroom! Not Gorkamorka's Mighty Mushroom, this one is all Mork all the time. I like the miniature (if you can call it that ... it's pretty tall), although I think I'd have preferred it not having the little moons in the mist/spores coming out the top. This is also the last of the Gloomspite Endless Spells.
Malign Sorcery: Doomblast Dirgehorn
Tooodoooo! It's a big horn (both types!). I like this miniature, not sure about the paint job I gave it. Being colorblind, the light green mist kinda blends into the light brown horn. If I did it again, I'd probably make the mist either blue or red.
Malign Sorcery: The Scuttletide
If you have arachnopobia, this is NOT the miniature for you. It's a whole lot of spiders. Big spiders, little spiders, and all sizes of spiders in between.
Looking at the GW's paint job, I see they didn't come up with a scheme that's better than mine. It's an interesting conundrum, the big spiders are big enough that you could do some cool markings (like a tarantula or something), but there are so many smaller spiders that it'd be extremely tedious to do it across the entire swarm. So I kept an easier scheme across the board (mostly browns, but with a light yellow drybrush across the legs). Speaking of the legs, they don't have any undercuts, so I made sure the tops were lighter than the place the undercuts should be (so it looks like there might be "space" under the legs).
Malign Sorcery: Emerald Lifeswarm
A swarm of dragonflies. This is kinda a cool miniature. In the game, the dragonflies land on wounds and heal them. The dragonflies are a bit simple and the wings, oddly enough, have more detail on the underside. I like the way they came out, but it was touch and go there for awhile.
Malign Sorcery: Geminids of Uhl-Ghysh
The Geminids of Ulh-Ghysh. I have to admit, I wasn't too sure how to paint these. One is supposed to represent "light" while the other represents "shadow". It's a cool concept, and I have no issues with the miniatures, but there isn't anything particularly noteworthy about these two identical miniatures. They are balls with lightning coming off them.
Malign Sorcery: Burning Head
The burning head. Nothing particularly fancy with the paint job, but it's a cool miniature. My only complaint (which is a complaint I have for all of the Endless Spells) is that it's just too big. It could be 1/2 the size and it'd be a much better miniature.

Frost Giant King
Taking a break from endless spells, here is the Frost Giant King. He might be the last one I paint (the girl is painting the Frost Giant Queen, so she'll show up at some point). The official D&D line has a Frost Giant which is tempting, but I have sooo many Giants at this point, that I really don't need more.
I have to admit, he wasn't my favorite Frost Giant to paint. I'd say the Frost Giant Bodyguard is a bit better and I think the Queen is probably the best sculpted of the group. His detail is a bit un-crisp in places. His pose is the best of the Frost Giants though, so it's a mixed bag.
He was missing a piece, the "knob" that goes on the front of his helmet. I replaced it with a plastic axe blade that I attached upside down.

Realmvault Key
One of the Age of Sigmar Shattered Dominion Objectives slipped into the endless spells I've been painting, the Realmvault Key. No idea what this thing is supposed to be or do. It's some sort of arcane thingy that you might find in some haunted ruins or a wizard's tower. The detail is a smidge better than the recent endless spells I've been painting, it's a nice miniature (if you can handle not knowing what the heck it actually does/is!)
Malign Sorcery: The Malevolent Moon
Don't come around tonight,
There's bound to be a fight,
There's a Bad Moon on the Rise!
It's the big guy himself, the Bad Moon! Of the endless spells, he was probably the most difficult/time-consuming to paint. Largely because I added edge highlights and highlighted all his pimples/craters. I figure he's the personification of the entity (god?) that my night goblins worship, I should make him look a little "nice". Like many of the endless spells, I like him more than I expected too.
Malign Sorcery: Scrapskuttle's Arachnacauldron
It's a big cauldron bubbling smoke with spider legs. It looks does cool, and like many of the endless spells, it's dead easy to paint. I think it'd be a bit better if it wasn't quite so large (it's huge! a couple of gobbos could use it as a jacuzzi). I'm not sure how much re-use it'll have, but I think every wizard's laboratory in any D&D campaigns I run will have one of these running around going forward.
Malign Sorcer: Ravening Direflock
The name makes it sound like a primal flying piranha thingy, but these are really just 3 flocks of crows. I like them more than I expected. Easy to paint and they look pretty good once painted. I do think I chose the wrong base color, I should have started from straight black instead of dark grey. Basically a bunch of dry brushing with Eshin Grey followed by Dawnstone. They should work well for other games too!
March 2019 Totals
March was a bad month for mini painting. I knew going in that it was going to be tough to get 30 minis painted, and then life piled even more responsibilities on top of that. The total for the month was 11... still better than January!
March Miniatures:
March Miniatures:
- 3 Soulsnare Shackles
- 1 Ettin
- 1 Formorian Giant
- 1 Chronomatic Cog
- 2 Umbral Spell Portals
- 1 Quick Silver Swords
- 1 Athervoid Pendulum
That puts me at 40 miniatures so for the year (the goal being to be at 90 at this point). Here's hoping April goes better!
